Installation and Setup

How to Use
- Open the app on your PC.
- Choose the WD drive you want to test from the list of detected drives.
- Select the desired test (Quick Test, Extended Test, etc.) from the available selections.
- Click the "Start Test" button to begin the diagnostic process.
- Wait for the test to complete before reviewing the results.
- Take appropriate action based on test results, such as replacing a defective drive or executing a secure erase.
Instructions
- Download Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics, WinDlg_vx_xx.zip.
- Run the WinDlg_vx_xx.exe application after extracting it. If you are running Windows Vista (or later), right-click the WinDlg_vx_xx.exe file and select Run As Administrator.
- To continue, please read and accept the license agreement.
- The primary program screen has two windows. In the top window, you can see which drives in your system are available for testing. The model number, serial number, capacity, and SMART status of each drive will be shown. In the bottom pane, the partition information for the selected drive will be displayed.
- To test or run SMART status, highlight the drive and then select the icon in the top row.
- When you click the Run Tests icon, the "DLGDIAG - Select an Option" window opens.
- You'll find the following options: QUICK TEST - Runs a SMART drive quick self-test to gather and verify the program information stored on the drive.
- EXTENDED TEST - runs a full media scan to find faulty sectors. The test could take many hours to perform, depending on the size of the drive.
- ERASE - writes zeros to the drive, including options for Full Erase and Quick Erase. The entire file system and data will be lost.
- VIEW TEST RESULT - displays the most recent test results.
- Select the test you want to run and click the Start button.
- When the test is complete, you will receive a pass/fail notice. Click the close button.
