Intel Performance Maximizer
Intel Performance Maximizer (IPM) is an official overclocking tool for a restricted range of Intel CPUs that can assist users of all skill levels in extracting maximum performance from their CPU chip. Built from the ground up to meet the needs of both home and business customers (such as gamers and professionals looking for a faster CPU), this tool puts the CPU through a variety of tests to establish the maximum stable frequency it can run at over time.
It will be decommissioned on April 24, 2023. Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility provides an alternate overclocking experience.
Some of the data it collects include the stability of the maximum frequency, the availability of power delivery, and the effectiveness of CPU cooling, all of which contribute to the app's maximum automatic overclocking capability.
There are other ways for users to extract more power from their CPU (such as intelligently managing active apps, suspending or deactivating various system processes, increasing cooling, and so on), but overclocking is the most dependable long-term solution. However, overclocking is a tough procedure that requires not only manually adjusting highly essential parameters in the PC BIOS (some of which might permanently destroy the CPU or motherboard if not done correctly), but also testing each overclock for long-term stability.
This frequently entails increasing the CPU frequency and then performing stress tests or benchmark software for hours to determine whether the entire PC is functioning smoothly and without errors, crashes, or reboots. The stability of the PC is especially crucial for professional users who desire an extraordinarily stable PC configuration when they begin working on huge 3D rendering or video processing projects, some of which might take up to a day of uninterrupted work.
Intel Performance Maximizer for PC simplifies the overclocking process by completing all of the necessary procedures automatically. The app even generates a new temporary partition on local storage to prevent the OS files from being harmed in the event of a crash. It can overclock the CPU and begin testing stability on its own, asking users to just leave the computer alone until the software delivers its findings.
There are no tuning choices, and the software cannot be forced to overclock the CPU beyond its maximum stability. After all machine learning-assisted tests have been completed, the app will simply ask the user if he wishes to accept the newly tested CPU frequency. At that moment, the program only offers two buttons: "Finish," which accepts the increased frequency, and "Rerun Test."
Intel Performance Maximizer is designed to function only with the most recent Intel processor generations, including the Intel Core X-series and the 9th and 10th generation series.
PROS
- Simple to use: IPM is designed to be user-friendly, making it accessible to those who do not have substantial expertise of overclocking. It offers a simple interface that walks users through the overclocking process step by step.
- Automatic optimization: It examines your system's hardware and evaluates various overclocking setups to determine the best settings for your CPU. This saves customers time and effort as compared to manual overclocking.
- Improved performance: When done appropriately, overclocking can result in significant performance improvements in applications that benefit from higher CPU clock speeds, such as gaming and some professional workloads.
- Stability testing ensures that the overclocked settings are reliable and will not cause system crashes or instability. This can assist users avoid the risks associated with manual overclocking.
CONS
Limited compatibility: IPM is only compatible with certain Intel processors and chipsets. Not all Intel CPUs are supported, so check to see if yours is on the list of compatible models.
Limited control: Although the tool is intended for convenience of use, it may not provide the same amount of control and flexibility as manual overclocking. Experienced overclockers may wish to fine-tune their settings for optimal performance.
Warranty concerns: Overclocking, especially when done with tools such as IPM, will void your CPU's warranty. Intel's warranty normally does not cover overclocking-related damage, so consumers should be aware of this risk.
Overclocking can cause greater heat generation and power consumption. Users should ensure that their cooling system and power supply can manage the higher demands of an overclocked CPU.
