A free and open-source research project called Xenia aims to simulate Xbox 360 games on contemporary Windows computers. For the emulator to function, a few minimal prerequisites must be satisfied. Have fun! Upon launch, Xenia will determine the minimum supported CPU and GPU and will report an error if none is found. Please ensure that you have the most recent drivers installed. It is not enough to just eliminate the code's checks and hope for the best.

This project aims to investigate, learn, and experiment with the idea of simulating contemporary hardware and operating systems. Reverse engineering of legitimately purchased games, devices, and information made available online is how all of the data is gathered. Senia isn't meant to support illicit conduct.

Highlights & Features

Accuracy to the pixel
For a variety of reasons, many corners are cut: in terms of performance, comprehension, documentation, etc. It is not possible to achieve an exact match between the output on a real console and an approach. On the other hand, this gives far more flexibility to deliver faster or better implementations.

Xenia's Xbox Live connectivity:

The Xbox 360 Emulator program on PC is incapable of establishing a connection with the actual Xbox Live network. It is feasible to create a network simulation that resembles Live, however the project does not aim to enable anything that interacts with the official Microsoft services.

Servers for Games
While many multiplayer games require server components for matchmaking or session hosting, some games are peer-to-peer. The program itself won't be trying to support such homebrew servers, though it would be feasible to work with them if projects arose to do so.

Xbox One Backward Compatibility
Microsoft published a compatibility layer that allowed 360 owners to play Xbox 360 games. It's not a goal, even if it's probably possible to get operating under the tool. The compatibility layer cannot be distributed, and there is probably a lot of trickery involved that most games don't do.

FAQ

Q. Whenever I run Xenia, it crashes!
Verify that your computer satisfies the app's system requirements. Since this project is still in its early stages of development, people who are uncomfortable debugging code are not supposed to use it. The team usually knows what's broken (everything is assumed), therefore issues filed with the subject "it's broken" are usually useless. If you are unable to understand why it isn't working for you, seek community support on Discord.

Q. Does Linux or macOS support Xenia?
Although the project is meant to serve non-Windows platforms, the maintenance load isn't worth it until games are running on it. macOS won't get support until Apple does, most certainly.
