It is strongly advised to use the SD Memory Card Formatter to format SD/SDHC/SDXC cards rather than the formatting tools included with individual operating systems. In general, formatting tools included with operating systems may format a variety of storage media, including SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards; however, they may not be optimized for SD/SDHC/SDXC Cards, resulting in reduced performance.
SD/SDHC/SDXC cards have a "Protected Area" for SD card security. The SD Memory CardFormatter does not format the SD, SDHC, or SDXC cards' protected areas. The secured region must be formatted using an appropriate PC application or SD host devices that include SD security features.
The utility does not handle SD/SDHC/SDXC cards encrypted using Windows' "BitLocker To Go" capability. Please format the SD/SDHC/SDXC card once it has been unlocked.
