Input Director allows you to handle many Windows systems from a single computer's keyboard and mouse! Control can be switched across systems using a hotkey or by moving the cursor to the screen edge of one machine and then appearing on the next. It has a shared clipboard; simply copy on one computer, switch control, and paste.

Input Director is a free solution for not having to switch between the keyboards and mouse connected to each computer. Moving the pointer near the screen edge on one computer will cause it to appear on the next. It also has a shared clipboard, which allows you to copy on one computer, then go to another and paste. The software works best when two (or more) computer monitors are placed next to each other on a desk, with the master system's keyboard and mouse positioned beneath them. (This is equivalent to a single computer with many displays).

Features and Highlights

  • Easy-to-follow installation and usage tutorials - setup takes only a few minutes.
  • Simply drag your monitors to the appropriate area on the monitor grid to tell the program how they should be positioned.
  • Multiple-monitor support
  • Shared Clipboard: Copy & paste between computers (even files!)
  • Compatible with: Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, Windows 2008, Windows Vista, Windows 2003, and Windows XP (SP3).
  • Only On a Windows 10 system, the input Director ensures that the cursor is visible and proper even when the mouse is detached.
  • To switch between computers, simply move your pointer from one to the other. This allows you to handle a computer without logging in.
  • Supports Windows' rapid user switching.
  • Compatible with the Windows User Account Control pop-ups.
  • Immediately lock all computers.
  • Synchronize screensavers across many machines.
  • Synchronize the system shutdown (or individually configure whether a machine goes to standby, hibernation, or shuts down).
  • Wake systems via the network.
  • Encrypt network data between InputDirector-controlled computers using AES with a 128, 192, or 256-bit key.
  • Lock down the configuration so that only System Administrators can make modifications.
  • Systems can limit the master systems that can control them by hostname, IP address, or network subnet.
  • Ripples surround the pointer for a few seconds after transitioning to assist the eye in following the cursor from one computer to another.
  • Can prevent transitions in the edges of computer monitors to avoid accidental slippage between systems.
  • Can additionally configure a key(s) that must be held down to allow transitions between systems.
  • Hotkeys can be configured to switch control to a single computer or to go to the next computer to the left or right.
  • When controlling another machine, you can use your mouse's preferences (speed and button order).
  • Supports multiple keyboard layouts.
  • The keyboard LEDs (Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, and Num Lock) show the status of the computer being controlled.
  • Mirror input: Broadcast mouse motions and/or keyboard input to all computers simultaneously.
  • Keyboard macros allow you to record a sequence of keystrokes that can subsequently be executed using a hotkey. Macros can be broadcast to all computers, played on the system under control, or linked to a specific machine.
  • Key bindings: permanently bind a key to another key on a given system.
  • A semi-transparent information pane can be overlayed on any (or all) systems, indicating which system is now being operated.
  • By clicking a checkbox, a slave can be temporarily bypassed.
  • Upon starting, slave systems notify the master system when they are available.
  • Slave systems notify the master system that they are due to be shut down or rebooted, and the master system will automatically skip them when moving between computers
