Firemin
Firemin allows you to easily and substantially improve your web browser's memory! One of the most significant "improvements" that Mozilla claims is Firefox memory utilization, specifically the elimination of memory leaks. Although Mozilla Firefox's memory consumption has decreased slightly in recent years, it still utilizes a significant amount of RAM, which is more than I am comfortable with.
Firefox typically consumes more than 250MB of memory right away. In a memory leak, memory use increases as the software remains open/in-use, which is exactly what happens with Firefox.
Rather than complaining about it, it chose to fix it. Enter Firemin; simply put, it will try to remove Firefox memory leaks and reduce the amount of memory it needs.
Windows will also periodically monitor running programs and instruct them to free up any unused memory. You may argue that this renders Firemin unnecessary, and you would be correct. However, in my perspective, Windows does not wipe off memory as often as I would want. It does the clean memory API call several times per second.
The mechanism Firemin uses to reduce Firefox memory consumption has not been proven, and the dispute over whether it works or not will continue indefinitely, but the rationale remains the same: if it works for you, use it; if it does not, don't use it. It's simply that simple.
It comes in two varieties. A setup utility for installing the app on your computer, as well as a portable version that may be run directly from a memory stick or portable hard drive. The portable version will not modify the registry or leave any traces on your machine.
Note: Requires Firefox, Waterfox, or Pale Moon.
