Data Protection

The extra levels, RAID-Z2 and RAID-Z3, provide double and triple parity protection, respectively. A software mirroring option is also available. The Free NAS Volumes screen displays all conceivable parity arrangements based on the number of disks selected when creating a new volume. 

Snapshots 
Snapshots can be taken on a one-time basis or scheduled as a cron job via the web interface. At any moment, the entire filesystem can be restored to the most recent snapshot. Older snapshots can be cloned and used to restore data from that version of the filesystem. Users can utilize the web interface to monitor how much space a certain snapshot takes up on the disk and delete, clone, or roll back to individual snapshots as needed. 

Replication 
ZFS Snapshots can be used to produce both local and distant backups. Replicating snapshots of the filesystem to a remote ZFS filesystem results in a complete duplicate. Furthermore, further snapshots of the same disk can be delivered progressively, lowering the size of each backup to reflect the changes made between snapshots. In the event of catastrophic damage to a local ZFS filesystem (such as disk failure beyond parity protection or irrecoverable log device failure), any backed-up snapshot can be transferred to a new ZFS filesystem, restoring all data up to that point. 

Encryption
True NAS for Windows 11/10 is the only open-source project that provides encryption for ZFS volumes. During volume creation, a full-volume encryption option is offered, enabling industry-standard AES-XTS encryption that can be hardware-accelerated (if the processor supports AES-NI). 

Plugins
