Joplin is a free, open-source note-taking and task-management tool for Windows PCs that can handle a huge number of notes grouped into notebooks. The notes are searchable and may be copied, tagged, and updated from inside the programs or in your own text editor. The notes are in Markdown format.

Notes exported from Evernote via .enex files can be imported into the Joplin app, containing formatted content (converted to Markdown), resources (pictures, attachments, etc.), and entire metadata (geolocation, updated time, creation time, etc.). Plain Markdown files may also be imported.

The notes can be synced with a variety of cloud services, including Nextcloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, WebDAV, and the file system (such as a network directory). When synchronizing, notes, notebooks, tags, and other metadata are saved as plain text files that may be readily inspected, backed up, and transferred about.

The program is available for Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, and iOS (the terminal app also runs on FreeBSD). Firefox and Chrome also include a Web Clipper, which allows you to save web pages and images from your browser.
